Hi, I’m cindy payne.
I began my career at The University of Texas at Austin, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development. After teaching for 10 years and staying at home to raise my children, I went back to school and earned a Master of Science in Counseling from Southern Methodist University. In 2020, I fulfilled a long time dream, and launched my private practice, Rooted Counseling Services, in Frisco, TX.
While I have experience working with various populations, I am passionate about working with people who experience anxiety and depression, as well as trauma recovery. Anxiety and depression can stem from life changes such as birth, death, marriage or divorce, while other times, it can be a lifelong struggle. I understand the vulnerable essence of this introspective work, and I am honored to walk alongside my clients in this journey.

Crystal is a Licensed Professional Counselor- Associate (TX# 96967) in the state of Texas under the supervision of Cindy Payne, LPC-S (TX# 77840). She earned her Master’s of Science degree at the University of North Texas in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling, where she also received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Science in 2016. Since August 2017, Crystal has been a high school educator while also earning her M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University.
Her theoretical orientation is Adlerian Therapy, a holistic approach to psychology emphasizing the importance of overcoming feelings of inferiority and gaining a sense of belonging to achieve success and joy in one’s life. In therapy, Adlerian theory benefits clients by helping them understand the root of behaviors and thought patterns, how to change their view of themselves, and how they can change their view of their childhood experiences.
She is passionate about working across the lifespan specifically with teens and adults who are experiencing difficulties such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship concerns, struggles associated with codependency, and racial & social justice issues. Crystal is trained in modalities outside of talk therapy such as Sand Tray Therapy and Activity Therapy. She believes in incorporating mindfulness and play into people’s lives across the lifespan.
Crystal believes the therapeutic relationship between the client and counselor is a crucial piece to navigate a client’s healing and interpersonal understanding. Her goal is to foster a collaborative environment where clients can learn all aspects of themselves and feel empowered to bring such self-acquired knowledge outside of the therapeutic space. She believes by the counselor providing a safe and accepting environment, clients can engage in self-discovery and healing.
